Overview

Mentor to Preteen Students

$17.oo per hour

 

OVERNIGHTS: 6pm to 6am 

 

Part time shifts 5pm to 9pm

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Ensure all students have finished their assigned chores–including cleaning of the team home–and taken care of their personal hygiene
  • Exhibit patience and calm under pressure
  • Hold firm boundaries with students
  • Demonstrate empathy and caring
  • Form a bond with students based on trust
  • Encourage fun in our “Milieu” (an atmosphere largely devoid of negative influences) where students learn socialization skills
  • Work as part of a team to help students move toward healing
  • Accompany students on outings and Adventure Therapy
  • Participate in animal-assisted therapy that emulates the human foster/adoption process and teaches caring and healthy attachment

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Some experience working with preteens in a residential setting is helpful but not necessary
  • Is able to pass State and Federal background checks
  • Able to pass physical and perform duties of the position

Physical Requirements

  1. Sitting/standing – employee may be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  2. Walking – employee may be required to walk considerable distance during the workday
  3. Carrying – employee may be required to carry objects in his or her arms and must have full mobility of arms to perform Safe Crisis Management (SCM)
  4. Lifting – employee may be required to raise and lower students from one level to another during the shift and must be able to lift 45 lbs. to perform SCM
  5. Stooping and crouching – employee is required to bend forward at the waist and/or kneel to perform SCM
  6. Climbing stairs – employee must be able to climb stairs
